1816 - 1817

IX Catholicose of Malankara

Mar Thoma IX whom Mar Thoma VIII consecrated as Metran and his successor, Iype Kathanar, was his own paternal Uncle. He was an old man incapable of taking any decision  himself and laking the force and drive needed to preside over the destinies of the Malankara Church. Before he could act Mar Dionysios II went to Kadamattom where Marthoma IX was living and took possession of all the Episcopal ornaments of the late Metran. Soon after a royal proclamation was issued ordering Christians to render  obedience to Mar Dionysios II . Mar Thoma IX finding himself in a position of dishonor and in effectiveness spent the rest of his life till his death in 1817 as a monk in the Kadamattom Church.

With the death of Mar Thoma IX  the era of Pakalomattam  Episcopacy, the rule of Metrans belonging to the Pakalomattam family, over the Malankara Church came to a close
